I have been pondering a new creative project and I have come up with an interesting idea. As you all know, I love taking photos! But I do tend to take the same sort of photos – nature, water, Kody. I need to step out of my comfort zone and last night inspiration came to me.
A new art event is taking place later this month called Art of the Danforth (see link in the Blog List) and one of the projects is a photo mosaic. A call went out to local photographers – amateur and pro, as well schoolchildren – to contribute pictures of the neighborhood or of any aspect of their lives. These images will be mounted together to create large photomosaics. The final mosaics will go on display in one of Greenwood, Coxwell or Woodbine subway stations during the Art of the Danforth. Naturally, I submitted some photos, and last night we began work putting the mosaic together.
While we sorting through the 1,800 photos, it was interesting to see the different perspectives of the neighbourhood and the interpretation of the colour themes (we were asked to take photos of blue, red, green and yellow things). I was really inspired to get out and take more photos – but of what?
That’s when I remembered the BBC photo galleries. The BBC website runs a weekly photo gallery where readers submit their photos based on a theme set by the BBC. So, to really challenge me, I need your help to set the theme! Once a month, I will send out a request for a theme – the first theme posted on the blog will be the one! Now, don’t make it too hard or abstract – I want to be challenged, not frustrated! Check the BBC website for ideas (go to bbc.co.uk - click on In Pictures, and go to We Set the Theme, You Take the Photos). At the end of the month, I will post the best photos.
Thanks in advance for your help! This is gonna be fun!
Ps. For those of you in Toronto, check out the Art of the Danforth project . It’s an interesting project, and I hope it continues each year – see the website for details.

Well, it seems that the inaugural theme of my new project will be old school diner signs!
